About the concert
In the last days of summer, you want to fit everything in at once: spend as much time outdoors as possible, linger over stories shared by those closest to you, and watch a classic film at an open-air cinema. This concert by the NotaBene Chamber Group is designed so that you won't have to choose—it all comes together in the space of a single hour.
Mozart's "Kegelstatt" Trio was, according to tradition, composed while playing skittles, and its lighthearted, playful spirit truly captures the carefree atmosphere of a summer afternoon outdoors.
Bruch's Eight Pieces belong to the evening. Inspired, at times wistful and at times almost fairy-tale-like, they unfold as a series of miniature stories told by the clarinet, cello, and piano—perfect companions as the day quietly draws to a close.
Nino Rota's Trio transports us to an open-air cinema screening the classics of Italian film. Best known for his scores to the films of Federico Fellini and The Godfather, Rota brought the same cinematic imagination to his chamber music: by turns witty and lyrical, always infused with the unmistakable warmth of the Mediterranean.
