About the concert
Italian music of the 17th and 18th centuries emerged in an era when composers wrote music as a specific language — the language of affects: tenderness, longing, anger, serenity, passionate love, and hundreds or even thousands of other emotional states. Each work here has its own character, and they can simply be heard as a succession of human experiences unfolding and changing throughout the evening.
The intimacy of the White Drawing Room adds to this music exactly what it calls for — an atmosphere of closeness and intimacy. Baroque sonatas and arias were written precisely for such spaces, where only a few meters separate performer from listener, and every subtle shift of emotion can be felt as though in a conversation with someone close to you.
