Concert Program: Borys Lyatoshynskyi — String Quartet No. 2, Op. 4 Borys Lyatoshynskyi — String Quartet No. 3, Op. 21 Performers: NotaBene Chamber Group: Andrii Pavlov /violin/ Maksym Hrinchenko /violin/ Ihor Zavhorodnii /viola/ Artem Poludennyi /cello/ Last year, on the occasion of the 130th anniversary of Borys Lyatoshynskyi’s birth, the Ukrainian Institute presented an edition of all the composer’s string quartets as part of the Anthology of Ukrainian Chamber Music. An important feature of this publication is the presentation of two editorial versions: the Urtext (essentially a printed version of the composer’s manuscripts) and a performance edition prepared by the NotaBene Chamber Group. On April 26, this edition can be not only seen but also heard live. Andrii Pavlov (violin), Maksym Hrinchenko (violin), Ihor Zavhorodnii (viola), and Artem Poludennyi (cello) will perform two string quartets by Borys Lyatoshynskyi, revealing not only the traits of Western European modernism in the composer’s work, but also echoes of Ukrainian, Kyiv sound of the 1920s.
