Max Richter: Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons”

Program: Max Richter — Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons / “Recomposed by Max Richter: Vivaldi – The Four Seasons” Performers: Nazariy Pylatyuk /violin/ Iryna Kharechko /organ/ “When I studied Vivaldi’s Four Seasons score, I saw that there is a natural point of contact between his Baroque language and mine. Vivaldi’s writing is heavily based on patterns, and he creates his effects by combining contrasting materials. This is very similar to the way post-minimalist music and electronic dance music work, and I found countless points of connection that allowed me to immerse myself in his material in a natural, sculptural, and architectural way. The result was the work Recomposed, which allowed me to rediscover The Four Seasons and get rid of the ghost of many hours of being forced to listen to 30-second loops of ‘Spring’ while waiting to get through to my bank,” British composer Max Richter comments on his work on the recomposition of Vivaldi’s most famous cycle. His version of The Four Seasons became a real discovery in 2012 and has remained highly ranked in international classical music charts ever since. On February 25, Vivaldi–Richter’s Four Seasons will be performed in Kyiv in an unusual format: instead of the traditional combination of solo violin and orchestra, you will hear an arrangement of the piece for violin and organ, performed by soloists of the National House of Music—Nazariy Pylatyuk (violin) and Iryna Kharechko (organ).
