Bach himself is a figure of such extraordinary depth that his music seems to embrace the entire sound of the cosmos (remember Voyager, don’t you?). At the same time, he undeniably became a source of inspiration for generations of composers to come. It may sound like a cliché, but it is no coincidence that Bach means “brook” — a stream from which so much music has flowed.
