Founded in 1989 by pianist Milana Chernyavska, the "Kyiv" Chamber Ensemble soon became a laureate of the International Chamber Ensemble Competition in Florence and the International Festival of Piano and Chamber Music named after Volodymyr and Regina Horowitz. The ensemble also participated in the International Chamber Ensemble Competition in Tokyo (1992). The following year, the "Kyiv" Chamber Ensemble performed a series of concerts in Bavarian cities, Germany. In 2014, the ensemble took part in the annual International Chamber Music Festival in Plovdiv, Bulgaria. The ensemble plays a crucial role in promoting the genre of the piano quintet and the music of Ukrainian composers. In particular, the ensemble premiered Yuri Ishchenko's Piano Quintet. Over the years, the "Kyiv" Chamber Ensemble has featured such musicians as cellist Hanna Nuzha, violinists Olena Tsurkan and Kyrylo Sharapov, violists Andriy Chop and Nataliya Kuleba, and pianist Roman Repka. Due to the full-scale military aggression initiated by russia in February 2022, the ensemble found itself on the brink of existence as some of its artists had to leave Ukraine. Those who remained, including violinist Mykhailo Bilych and pianist Andriy Vasin, faced the challenging task of rebuilding the ensemble by searching for musicians. Currently, the "Kyiv" Chamber Ensemble is fully operational, restoring its previously performed repertoire and implementing new works in its updated lineup: • Kyrylo Bondar (First Violin) • Mykhailo Bilych (Second Violin) • Andriy Chop (Viola) • Mykola Liubenko (Cello) • Andriy Vasin (Piano)
